Manual spot-checking on a fast line catches only a fraction of surface defects, and what it does catch is inconsistent between shifts.
The work covered dataset preparation and annotation, training and evaluating a detection model, and wrapping it in an inference service with a review screen so operators could confirm or reject flags. Results were logged so supervisors could see patterns over a shift rather than isolated events.
